Cos’è Halloween? La festa di Halloween è una festa di origine celtica (il cui originario nome era Samhain) che corrispondeva al loro capodanno, infatti la fine dell’anno celtico era il 31 ottobre. I Celti credevano che in questa notte era possibile una fusione tra il mondo reale e quello dell'aldilà permettendo così agli spiriti dei morti di tornare sulla terra. Per proteggersi i contadini dei villaggi rendevano le loro case spettrali e si mascheravano da mostri per mischiarsi agli spiriti che incontravano! Il nome Halloween è invece di origine cristiana e deriva dalla contrazione di “all hallows eve” che significa “vigilia di Ognissanti”. What's Halloween? Halloween is a Celtic feast day (its original name is Samhain) which corresponds to the first day of Celt’s calendar which terminates on October 31st. Celts believed that in the night between October 31st and November 1st our reality and spirits world may communicate and dead spirits come back on earth. To defend themselves peasants gave their houses a spectral look and masked themselves to be similar to the spirits. The word Halloween has a Christian origin, and results from the contraction of the words “all hallows eve”. |

Cos’è Halloween per i Magic KnightS? Da quando Massimo ha assistito alla festa di Halloween dai suoi parenti di New York è stato più che normale che portasse gli usi e le abitudini anche ai Magic KnightS!
Magic knightS Halloween After Massimo took part at Halloween when he was in the USA (NY) visiting his relatives it was inevitable that he will bring back to us this tradition. So every year Magic KnightS meet to carve the pumpkin, cook the traditional cake and decorate the house with the strangest decorations, giving attention to use only candles to light the rooms. Halloween is a very singular feast day with its own unmistakable atmosphere and we have to say that Massimo is very able in creating a perfect Halloween night. |

| La leggenda di Jack Quella di Jack è una leggenda irlandese che parla proprio di un certo Stingy Jack, un bandito che sfidò il Diavolo proponendogli, con l’inganno, di scalare un albero dove aveva inciso una croce sulla corteccia. Così facendo lo intrappolò e, a questo punto, gli chiese di fare un patto, lo avrebbe liberato solo se non l’avesse più fatto cadere in tentazione. Il Diavolo accettò. Alla morte di Jack, però, il Paradiso non lo accettò a causa dei suoi innumerevoli crimini ma neanche l’Inferno a causa del suo patto con il Diavolo. Così Satana gli diede un tizzone dell’Inferno per illuminare la sua buia via e Jack intagliò una grossa cipolla per far mantenere il fuoco acceso più a lungo. Con l’arrivo degli immigrati irlandesi in America, le cipolle vennero sostituite con le zucche, ormai indiscusso simbolo della festa di Halloween!!! The legend of Jack O'Lantern The legend of Jack originated in Ireland, and tells us about a certain Stingy Jack, a bandit who challenged the Devil, asking him to climb a tree where he carved a cross to deceive the Devil himself. The Devil accepted to climb the tree, but he wasn’t able to come down due to the cross, so Jack told the Devil he will make him come down only if the Devil renounce to tempt Jack anymore. The Devil was forced to accept. Some day Jack died, but… Heaven decided to reject him due to his numerous crimes and for its part Hell too reject him due to the pact he stipulated with the Devil. So the Devil gave him a piece of flamed coal from hell to light his dark way and Jack, to let the flame burning longer, carved a big onion where he putted the piece of coal. When Irish immigrate came to America, onions were replaced with pumpkins, which became the symbol of Halloween. |
