Maria Antonia Giuseppina Giovanna d'Asburgo-Lorena è uno dei personaggi più ambigui del panorama storico mondiale. Su di lei si è sempre detto di tutto circa la sua frivolezza e le sue pessime abitudini; ma chi era davvero questa ragazza che a soli 14 anni si è trovata a dover gestire una Nazione intera? In “Versailles no bara” Maria Antonietta è realizzata con molti riferimenti al personaggio storico e a tutte le voci sempre dette sul suo conto ma con un tocco di umanità in più che la vede testimone di un radicale cambiamento alla morte del figlio Luigi Giuseppe e per il suo ruolo durante la rivoluzione.
In tutto il cartone animato Maria Antonietta è perfettamente coerente con il suo corrispondente storico ma si possono più facilmente comprendere le sue difficoltà nel dover gestire un ruolo a cui mai era stata preparata, un mondo a cui non apparteneva, la sua solitudine, i suoi sentimenti.
Nella scelta di dover realizzare il costume di questo personaggio non mi sono ispirato solo alla Maria Antonietta dell’anime ma anche a quella vera, così guardando bene i suoi ritratti è uscito fuori un vestito più somigliante alla verità aggiungendo piume e i gioielli che lei tanto amava.
I continui lanci di mode sempre diverse per colmare quella solitudine che aveva dentro sono stati così importanti che non potevamo non aggiungere tutti quei particolari che poi l’hanno resa celebre. Il risultato finale è stato un costume laborioso ma davvero ben fatto… e questo è il nostro personale tributo per una Regina tanto disprezzata quanto affascinante.

Marie Antoinette Josephine Jeanne von Aubsburg-Lorena is one of the most ambiguous personality of the world historical overview. You can hear everything about her, about her frivolousness, her bad habits; but who really was this young girl who had to manage an entire nation when she was only 14? In “Versailles no Bara”, Marie Antoinette is represented with a lot of references to the real history and to real gossip about her, but in a more human way, in fact we can see that she completely muted her way of thinking after the death of her son Louis Joseph and also her position during the revolution is more correspondent to the historical truth.
During the entire cartoon Marie Antoinette is perfectly coherent to her historical correspondent, but you can easily understand her feelings, loneliness and difficulties into managing both a role she was never prepared before to face, and a world she didn’t belong to.
To realize this character I took my inspiration both from the cartoon character and from the real historical personality, so watching to her portraits I made a dress more similar to reality, with lot of feathers and jewels she loved.
The great number of fashions she made to fill her loneliness were so important that we couldn’t forget to add to our dresses those particulars and accessories that made her famous. The final result is a complicated dress but very well made, and this is our personal tribute to a despised as well as enchanting Queen.
